Fine artists, public venues and the stories that connect them to the neighborhood.

West Hollywood’s art circuit includes architecture as a place for experimentation and civic buildings as places to encounter art. Start at the Schindler House, then make a separate visit to the library and its surrounding public works.

Artists to know

Follow the local connections.

Shepard Fairey

Murals + graphic art

West Hollywood Library / Peace, Freedom and Creativity

Fairey’s 2011 mural near the City Council Chambers entrance draws on community input to depict West Hollywood’s identity. Its layers of symbols connect a recognizable graphic language with the history and architecture of this particular city.

Kenny Scharf

Painting + public murals

West Hollywood Library / parking-structure mural

Scharf’s mural on the library’s adjacent parking structure brings his brightly colored, animated visual language into a civic setting. Installed through MOCA’s Art in the Streets project, it is a documented neighborhood work rather than a private studio destination.

Artist profiles refer to documented public artworks. Indoor access follows the venue’s schedule; these connections do not identify artist studios or imply a property tenancy.
