Artists to know

Follow the local connections.

Laurie Hendricks

Plein-air + studio painting

Former South Pasadena gallery owner; SPARC exhibitor

Hendricks works from life in a contemporary Impressionist tradition, painting landscapes, figures and still lifes with direct, expressive brushwork. She operated her own South Pasadena gallery from 2012 to 2018, and her exhibition history includes multiple SPARC shows. Her work offers a painter’s view of the light and ordinary scenes that give a place its character.

Kathleen Laraia McLaughlin

Photography + visual research

South Pasadena subjects and SPARC’s Childhood 101 exhibition

McLaughlin’s photography links storytelling, memory and cultural identity. SPARC’s 2019 Childhood 101 exhibition documented her sons and their friends at home and around South Pasadena. Her current practice also engages photographic history and archival research, connecting close observation of everyday life with broader questions about how images preserve experience.

The artist profiles document local exhibition and subject connections. The former Hendricks gallery is historical; it is not listed as a current walk-in venue.
