Hollywood’s working life extends south of its famous boulevard. Around Highland, Sycamore and Santa Monica, cafes, restaurants and contemporary galleries form a useful circuit for a creative team. The broader neighborhood adds established dining rooms and an unexpected art encounter at the Roosevelt pool.

Hollywood has a substantial contemporary gallery circuit away from the tourist frontage. Regen Projects and Jeffrey Deitch are useful starting points; farther north, Hockney’s painted pool offers a different relationship between art, architecture and everyday use.

Artists to know

Follow the local connections.

Catherine Opie

Photography + sculpture

Regen Projects / documented exhibitions

Opie’s photographs examine people, communities and landscapes with close attention to how images describe a place. Regen Projects has presented her work repeatedly, including Holding Blue in 2026, giving this Hollywood gallery a documented connection to her practice.

David Hockney

Painting + site-specific work

Hollywood Roosevelt / painted Tropicana Pool

Hockney’s marks on the pool floor turn moving water into part of the composition. It is an unusually direct encounter with a major painter’s work in a hotel setting; arrange the appropriate hotel or day-pass access before visiting.

Artist connections below identify documented exhibitions or artworks. They do not imply that a particular exhibition is currently open, that a private studio is visitable, or that the artist is a property tenant.
