Laura / Fairmont Century Plaza
2025 Avenue of the Stars
Jaume Plensa's 23-foot mesh portrait stands in a reflecting pool outside the Fairmont Century Plaza. The hotel invites visitors to step outside and see it; use the public approach and follow any onsite access directions.
Cecil Balmond's nested stainless-steel cylinders occupy the Santa Monica Boulevard median at Century Park East. Commissioned by Farhang Foundation and unveiled in 2017, the work draws on the Cyrus Cylinder. Observe it from a designated pedestrian viewpoint.
Laura, 2020 / Fairmont Century Plaza public commission
Plensa's Laura places a monumental mesh portrait in a reflecting pool outside Fairmont Century Plaza. His project record dates the stainless-steel work to 2020 and identifies the hotel as its commissioner. Open mesh, water and reflection let a large sculpture feel porous within the surrounding architecture, rewarding a pause along Avenue of the Stars.
Freedom Sculpture / Santa Monica Boulevard at Century Park East, unveiled 2017
Balmond's Freedom Sculpture uses two open stainless-steel cylinders, silver outside and gold within, to reinterpret the ancient Cyrus Cylinder. Farhang Foundation commissioned it through an international competition and presented it to Los Angeles in 2017. Its cut surfaces change with light and viewpoint. Observe the boulevard commission from designated pedestrian areas.
The artist connections below are documented public commissions in Century City. Artwork pins identify the public setting, not private studios. View roadside works from designated pedestrian areas; access around hotels and other privately managed plazas may vary.
